Top 5 Ways For Your Family To Stay Active In Concord
My Family is new to the area, we just moved to Concord last year. We have traveled all over the world, almost every continent, we live, eat, and breathe travel. With all the incredible experiences we have been blessed to be a part of, finding a place to live with active things nearby to do throughout the week can be a challenge, especially with kids.
We all know that life catches up to us and it’s easy to just stay at home and not be active. Sometimes we may just not be aware of what is truly available. Concord is one of best places to live in North Carolina. With the growth in Concord, there are new opportunities to get out, get active, and have a good time with you and your family throughout the week. These businesses and recreational spots bleed Concord pride, and are all, of course, local. Let’s take a look at my list of top 5 active and fun things to do in Concord:
1. Frank Liske Park
Frank Liske Park is an absolutely massive 238-acre park. It has everything from Soccer fields to Volleyball courts, canopies with tables and grills, multiple playgrounds, outdoor workout equipment, softball, mini golf, summer camps, and the list goes on and on. My family loves going here and feeding the ducks at the pond (there is a food dispenser, so bring quarters!). We also ran a 5k here last fall for a local non-profit, and the scenery on the running trail is wonderful. Frank Liske Park is worth definitely a visit.
2. Cabarrus Brewery
Cabarrus Brewery is a staple weekend outing for you and your family. Now before you get all hot and bothered about taking your family to a brewery, let me explain what makes this place different. This is not your typical bar feel, no, it’s actually a really relaxed atmosphere that is inviting and surprisingly family-friendly. You can find birthday parties held here, people bring in board games and play together over a drink, there is trivia night, a yoga club, and live music. Not only is the wide selection of beers delicious, but they are all named after neat historical facts about Cabarrus County. Not sure which one you would like? Order a flight and sample a few recommendations from the staff. We love coming here during the summer for “Food Truck Friday” where there is a selection of food trucks with all sorts of delicious treats, yard games, and of course, beer. Cabarrus Brewery is a great place for you to spend the evening with your family. 3. Cabarrus County Gymnastics
Cabarrus County Gymnastics (CCG) is one of Concord’s hidden Gems. Convenient access from Concord, Kannapolis, Charlotte, and surrounding areas, this 19,000 square foot fully equipped, air-conditioned facility houses recreational gymnastics for toddlers, beginner boys and girls, and competitive gymnastics teams in USAG disciplines for Women's and Trampoline and Tumbling. In addition to having your kids in gymnastics, CCG is great for both parents and kids, here’s why- birthday parties, after school programs, drop your kids off Friday nights for date night, summer camps, and toddler time. My wife takes our kids to the toddler time where she gets to run, jump, roll, bounce, and play in the gym. Not only will your kids get to learn gymnastic skills, but mom and dad may get some time to themselves! 4. CrossFit Cabarrus
CrossFit? What? Alright, before you get scared away, let’s clear some things up- CrossFit is functional movement-based group classes that combine cardio, bodyweight movements, and weightlifting together. A coach is there in each class to make sure you are moving correctly and to explain workouts. Workouts are different each day and are challenging and effective. Even if CrossFit is too intimidating, ēvoFIT Bootcamp is offered, which is like CrossFit without any barbells or complex movements. The best part about this gym, in addition to the results and community, is its location: Its a part of the Sportscenter, a fitness club that’s been in Concord since 1982. It has an endless list of amenities including: Indoor and outdoor pool with splash park, hot tub, steam room, sauna, cardio and weightlifting rooms, smoothie/coffee bar, child care, and more. Picture this: you drop your kids off at the nursery, attend a Bootcamp or CrossFit class, and once your done, pick your kids up and head to the pool for a couple hours. We go to the pool at the Sportscenter multiple times a week. Seriously, this place has everything, and it makes for a great time for the whole family. 5. Concord Greenway
Concord has multiple Greenways walking paths, but this one is our favorite. We live close to downtown Concord and we love that it runs through the heart of our city. This trail also runs through Les Myers Park and McGee Park, so there are plenty of places to stop with the kids and play on the playgrounds. You know what may be the best part about this trail? It runs into downtown Concord, so what better place to end your stroll than with ice cream from Cabarrus Creamery! For more of Concord's Greenway's and maps, check out their website: HERE
Great list! Thanks for highlighting some nice spots in our beautiful city!
